Job Description:

Naturalists perform interpretive duties, animal care, work with volunteers and lead related program work at Potomac Overlook Regional Park. Other responsibilities include helping maintain park grounds and facilities. Pay Rate: $13.50 per hour / $14.50 per hour (hourly rate depends on tasks performed)Major Duties/Specific Tasks

• Provide visitor information and answer telephone inquiries;
• Assist with preparation of exhibits and other interpretive materials;
• Assist with preparation and presentation of programs for school and public groups;
• Work with volunteers;
• Care for live animal exhibits and help maintain Nature Center, and grounds;
• Assist with maintenance of the facility and equipment: use equipment such as leaf blowers; collect and dispose of litter and trash; clean restrooms; dust, sweep and vacuum; plant and maintain trees/shrubs and planted beds; remove invasive plants; organize and help maintain organization of all programming materials and nature center;
• Perform other related work as required.Minimum Qualifications
  • At least two years of high school education in some natural resource field;
  • 1 year of college preferred;
  • General knowledge of biology and ecology;
  • At least a basic knowledge of flora and fauna of Northern Virginia;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with the public and staff members;
  • Ability to prepare and present accurate reports;
  • Ability to perform manual labor and to work in all weather conditions;
  • Availability to work additional hours during peak operating times, holidays, nights and weekends;
  • Possession of or ability to obtain valid VA driver's license;
  • Certification or ability to obtain certification in CPR and first aid and AED.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the position.
