Job Description:
Maret School is seeking a highly skilled and hard-working
building engineer to join our Facilities Department in creating a
safe, efficient, and comfortable environment for the school
community. This role reports to a seasoned director of facilities.
The building engineer is part of a team that takes on a wide
variety of assignments from minor to multi-faceted and provides
complex planned maintenance and in-house repairs to extend the
lifespan of equipment, prevent breakdowns, and optimize
performance. Importantly, the building engineer must be a
collaborative, hard-working, and creative problem-solver. Other
related duties may be assigned from time to time to meet the
school's needs.HVAC Maintenance and Repair
- Complete complex maintenance on HVAC equipment such as
chillers, pneumatic controls, lochinvars, VAV systems, VRF systems,
air compressors, pumps, and boilers
- Identify, diagnose, and promptly address malfunctions with HVAC
equipment, coordinating with the director of facilities and outside
vendors as neededMechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP)
Maintenance and Repair
- Regularly inspect MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing)
systems for operability and to identify repair needs, documenting
as needed
- Complete identified MEP repairs, coordinating with the director
of facilities and outside vendors as needed
- Proactively maintain and repair building components including
doors, door hardware, electrical switches, outlets, lighting
fixtures, toilets, etc.Desired Expertise and Experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC, electricity, plumbing, and
maintenance
- Ability to use a wide variety of tools and test equipment in
performing repairs and maintenance
- Washington, DC, Stationary Engineer license
- Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certificate or equivalent
- Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration certification
- Strong understanding of fire control panels and sprinkler
systems
- High school diploma or GED
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Familiarity with applicable technology systems (Microsoft
Office suite, Asset Essentials ticketing system, BAS, and access
control)Physical and Mental Requirements
- Ability to effectively read, write, and otherwise communicate
in English
- Capable of bending, stretching, reaching, lifting and/or
standing for extended periods and the ability to carry, lift, or
drag heavy items (up to 50 pounds)
- Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth
perception, and the ability to hear voices, alarms, bells, and
horns
- Willingness to work overtime as neededA successful candidate
