with key responsibilities for America's Subway?Washington Metro is
seeking an experienced Professional Land Surveyor that can serve as
the group lead for WMATA's Geomatics Survey Engineering Office's,
"Land Properties, Easements & Right-of-Way group". Major
responsibilities of this group include maintaining the continuity
of WMATA's properties and Right-of-Ways by performing property
boundary and easement/right-of-way limits surveys, preparing plats
or exhibits and legal descriptions for the same, reviewing similar
documents prepared by others for compliance with the Authorities'
standards and specifications, and providing subject matter
expertise to land survey and legal groups contracted to perform or
deliver the same. This group is also responsible for providing
professional subject matter review and comment support to ensure
adequate easement and right-of-way limits are set during the design
phase of capital improvement projects and for the acquisition or
sale of properties. The selected candidate will have extensive
latitude for exercising professional judgement and taking
appropriate action within established guidelines. A combination of
formal education and practical job experience is preferred.
Extensive job experience in lieu of education is acceptable.
Registration or License as a Professional Land Surveyor in at least
one of the signatory jurisdictions of the WMATA Compact, e.g., the
States of Maryland, Virginia or the District of Columbia, is

posting.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation
- Bachelor's Degree in Geomatics, Geospatial Technology,
Surveying, Geography, Mathematics, Science, Engineering, or a
related field.
- In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, a High School Diploma or GED
and four (4) years of experience conducting, processing and
analyzing survey data applicable to geodetic, civil, construction
and/or land surveys using automated survey techniques, survey
related computer software, and computer aided drawing, in addition
to the experience stated below, will be considered.Experience
- A minimum of four (4) years of professional Land Surveying
experience, including experience conducting, processing and
analyzing survey data applicable to geodetic, civil, construction
and/or land surveys, using automated survey techniques, survey
related computer software, and computer aided drawing
software.
- Demonstrated knowledge in right-of-way, subdivision,
engineering design, field surveys and survey instrumentation at a
Land Survey Party Chief level or higher.Certification/Licensure
- Registration or License as Land Surveyor in one of the
signatory jurisdictions of the WMATA Compact, e.g., the States of
Maryland, Virginia or the District of Columbia.
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle's license issued from the
jurisdiction of residence.
- Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) Certification, Level 2, within
three (3) months of hire and maintained for the duration of time in
the job.Preferred

DesignationIn accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area
Transit Authority's Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP), this job
has been identified as critical to mission essential functions.
Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to
work in the event of authorized office closings or service
suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire,
operational emergencies or related events.SUMMARYThe Land Surveyor
is responsible for accurately researching, reviewing, computing and
writing legal descriptions for WMATA property acquisition and
disposal. The incumbent effectively coordinates and approves all
land surveying activities within WMATA. The incumbent prepares land
surveying related documents using state of the art hardware and
software which shall include use of advanced CAD systems. The
incumbent has latitude for exercising professional judgement and
taking appropriate action within established guidelines.ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS
- Reviews boundary, easement, legal descriptions, topographic and
planimetric survey data for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepares boundary and easement survey drawings and legal
descriptions using CAD and survey engineering computer programs and
may be required to seal and certify legal instruments for WMATA's
intended use.
- Performs survey work in accordance with jurisdictional
requirements.
- Reviews and prepares a variety of technical survey
reports.
- Participates in the preparation and identification of real
property interests required for the METRORAIL and METROBUS
system.
- Makes field investigations prior to, during, and after the
performance of assigned survey work to provide surveying oversight
and input as required to in-house survey staff and contracted
survey staff.
- Ensures compliance with appropriate survey procedures and
standards.
- Prepares and reviews scope of services for survey contract work
and recommends revisions to ensure that the services provided
reflect the Authority's current needs.
- Recommends computer hardware/software procurement to support
automation program and other survey activities within WMATA.
Interfaces with hardware and software vendors as needed to resolve
computational problems and hardware/software deficiencies and
conflicts.
- Reviews procedures and equipment proposed by survey contractors
to ensure they will achieve accurate survey results. Reviews survey
contractor results for technical accuracy and completeness.
- Serves as a source of support to the Authority for all survey
related matters.
- Assists in preparing survey cost estimates for in-house and
survey contract services, establishes and maintains hard copy and
digital survey files.The essential duties listed are not intended
